Before starting a design, you will likely import floor layouts from AutoCAD or PDFs and set the drawing scale. This is typically done by selecting two points on the layout and providing the real dimensions. Design software translates pixels to distance based on this input.

✅ It is strongly recommended to do this on the longest identifiable dimension in the drawings.

❌ Doing this on doors is not advisable.

The first thing I do when reviewing designs is to look for inconsistencies in the floor layouts and their scales. By setting the correct drawing scale, you can minimize errors and ensure accurate representations.

Tip#2: Avoiding Missing Floors..

When working on in-building designs, it's crucial to review the 3D model for consistency to prevent any subsequent mistakes. Always double-check the elevations and levels mentioned on the floor layouts and ensure the following are captured accurately:

1️⃣ Double-height floors: Make sure they are properly accounted for in the design.

2️⃣ Floor cuts and atriums: Verify that these architectural features are accurately represented.

3️⃣ Check consecutive floor levels: Look out for any missing floors in the layout.

For large and complex projects like Airports and Stadiums, Floor layouts can span hundreds of AutoCAD files and levels can be very tricky to understand. Its very easy to overlook an important piece of information specially when these buildings are still not constructed yet.

By paying attention to these details, you can prevent issues and ensure a comprehensive and accurate design from the first time.

Tip#3: MEP risers and AC ducts..

MEP risers and AC ducts should be accounted for in large projects. High-rise towers will have multiple MEP risers cluttered with multiple metal pipes. In many cases these risers are in a position where they obstruct the signal. Modelling the walls only will significanlty impair predection results.

1️⃣ Do not overlook MEP layer when importing floor layouts.

2️⃣ Always do a CW measurement when you can for large projects. No two buildings are the same.. Spending more time verifying the coverage predictions is always rewarding in terms of CAPEX and OPEX.
